Education Initatives > The Educator Innovation Plan

The Educator Innovation Plan Recruits, Prepares, Supports, and Retains Talent for North Carolina Schools.

Well-prepared teachers and empowered principals are the number one and number two in-school factors influencing student success. Therefore, the most important thing we can do to improve our education system is recruit, prepare, support, and retain great talent for our schools. But, unlike other industries, education has failed to keep pace with a changing workforce and world. We recognize that the outdated education system is not adequate to meet students’ and educators’ fundamental needs.

Since 2015, BEST NC has engaged alongside key education stakeholders to design and implement new and innovative policies, programs, and initiatives that will address the systemic barriers facing North Carolina’s education system, specifically the educator pipeline. BEST NC’s strategic and actionable effort to support systemic transformation is called The Educator Innovation Plan.

A Decade of Innovation,
A Lifetime of Impact

BEST NC’s first ten years have been focused on recruiting and preparing school leadership, increasing access to effective educators, and improving the  educator experience. And as we move into a new decade of transformation, it’s clear that these initiatives, programs, policies, and research have become some of the most effective and sustainable  solutions to the barriers keeping North Carolina from being First in Education. Watch our video to learn more about the Educator Innovation Plan, and find out what a difference a “decade of BEST NC” can have on a school building and the journeys of the students and educators inside.

Putting the Right Pieces Into Place

Education transformation isn’t achieved overnight or with a few quick fixes; it’s hundreds of pieces of a puzzle, fitting together through intentional, thoughtful design. The pieces that BEST NC supports as a part of the Educator Innovation Plan have become integral to reimagining an education system that better supports North Carolina’s students and the educators that serve them:

These initiatives were chosen for the unique opportunities they offer to North Carolina’s education professionals and the students they serve. We rely on three guiding principles that North Carolina’s business leaders use to recruit and retain top talent into their industries – competent leadership, opportunities to grow, and professional support and compensation – and translate them so that we can use them to lead us toward student-focused, data-driven solutions to North Carolina’s most pressing education issues:

School Leadership

You can’t have great schools without great school leaders. Innovation and success start with great leaders who recruit and empower great teams and have the flexibility to manage their resources.

Access to Effective Educators

To ensure equitable access to great educators, recruiting, preparing, and supporting high-quality candidates is imperative, as is ensuring that every student has access to a highly-effective educator.

Educator Experience

Educators, like other highly skilled professionals, thrive when they are given a professional work environment with embedded supports, great leadership, and opportunities to grow.
